Adjaye Associates

Sir David Adjaye OBE, an award-winning Ghanaian-British architect noted for infusing his creative sensibility and ethics into community-driven projects, established Adjaye Associates in 2000. His inventive use of materials, unique designs, and imaginative sensibility have distinguished him as one of the most influential architects of his generation. The studios are located in Accra, London, and New York, and the firm has executed projects across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. Sir David Adjaye, OBE, has built a global team that is multicultural and stimulated by the most diverse cultural dialogue conceivable.
The firm’s contributions to architecture have gained widespread acclaim. Adjaye was recently named the recipient of the 2021 RIBA Royal Gold Medal. The Royal Gold Medal, directly ordered by Her Majesty the Queen, is regarded as one of the highest honours in British architecture for one’s major contribution to the field on a global scale. Adjaye also received the World Economic Forum’s 27th Annual Crystal Award for his “leadership in supporting people, cities, and the environment.” The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), which opened in 2016 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is Adjaye Associates’ most well-known commission to date. Ultimately, for Adjaye, architecture is “a social act”—it’s about constructing buildings that acknowledge and understand their histories while creating something entirely new, in order to serve communities into their futures.
