Anthem Properties, based in Vancouver, has announced its acquisition of a 2.25-acre residential lot inside the Currie master-planned community. A reimagining of the historic Canadian Forces Base Calgary, which debuted as the Currie Barracks in 1933.

The facility was named after General Sir Arthur William Currie, the famous commander of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on the Western Front during World War I.

CFB Calgary was deactivated in 1998 and afterward purchased by Canada Lands Company, a crown corporation.

Currie Barracks project has 39 townhouses spread over six blocks and 148 residential flats spread across two five-story wood-frame residential buildings. The development will include roughly 5,700 dwellings, 250,000 square feet of retail space, 613,000 square feet of commercial space, and 23 acres of parks and open space when completed.
