Baif Developments Limited is a fully integrated real estate development firm, established in the early 1960s by builders Sandy Hofstedter and Simon Minz. Since its founding, Baif has built over 20,000 new homes and developed both urban and suburban communities throughout the GTA. When they first started in the 1960s, they collaborated with Acorn Developments.
They are recognized for building unique, mixed-use communities and collaborating with some of the industry’s best developers to produce houses that their clients desire. They have had a hand in building significant communities in Vaughan, Newmarket, Oakville, Toronto, Whitby, Mississauga, Markham, and Brampton as well-known builders of master-planned communities, and they continue to have a lasting impact throughout the GTA. Their vision was to become a fully integrated real estate firm specializing in land development and mixed-use structures.
In the 1970s, as the City of Toronto boomed, so did Baif Developments. During this period, both Baif and Acorn began developing master-planned communities, including the 400-acre Baif Community in Richmond Hill near Yonge and Carville Road. They also constructed mixed-use condos and commercial offices. They were involved in the construction of Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill and Wynford Heights Crescent Community in Don Mills.
During the 1980s, Baif began to concentrate on commercial and industrial property development, such as the Beaver Creek Business Park between Highways 7 and 404. During this time, Acorn separated from its long-standing partnership with Baif and formed its own business. Baif has already established itself as a prominent developer, constructing condominiums, master-planned communities, and industrial/commercial structures. They concentrated on identifying and acquiring unoccupied land in important districts of Toronto and Richmond Hill.
