M City, a landmark urban development in Mississauga, is owned and developed by Rogers Real Estate Development Limited, a company linked to the private holding entities of the prominent Rogers family. The Rogers family has a rich history in Canadian business, primarily through Rogers Communications Inc., a renowned and publicly traded telecommunications company founded by Ted Rogers, one of Canada’s most influential business figures.
The story of M City is deeply rooted in the legacy of Ted Rogers in Mississauga. In the 1960s, he acquired 43 hectares of land in the area for the placement of transmitters for one of his early ventures, radio station CHFI, which remains the most popular radio station in Toronto to this day. After moving the transmitters in the early 1990s, Ted Rogers made a strategic decision to retain ownership of the land, eventually selling a significant portion to residential builders.
In 2002, the property underwent a pivotal rezoning, allowing for a broader spectrum of land uses, including increased residential development. This marked the beginning of a transformative journey for the land, culminating in the vision for M City. Rogers Real Estate Development Limited has partnered with Urban Capital, a respected name in real estate development, to oversee the construction of M City. Together, they aim to create a vibrant and dynamic urban space that reflects the modern lifestyle and aspirations of Mississauga’s residents.
M City is envisioned as a catalyst for revitalizing downtown Mississauga, representing a significant step towards establishing a flourishing community in the city’s rapidly growing core. With its mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, M City aims to foster a sense of belonging and community, while also enhancing the urban landscape.
