In his authorization to Federal Housing Minister Ahmed Hussen on Thursday, Mr. Trudo called for measures, including a temporary ban on the sale of non-leisure homes to foreign buyers. The prime minister said this will help ensure that homes are not vacant and available to domestic buyers.
The ban is the cornerstone of Drudo’s solution to the overheated Canadian real estate market, which has seen house prices soar as a result of a bidding war caused by tight supply.

Trudo hopes to reverse this trend by investing in a new “housing acceleration fund” (housing accelerator fund), which will increase housing inventory through inclusive planning, increased density, shorter construction approval time and rapid development of vacant or underutilized land.
“your primary goal is to ensure that Canadians can own their own homes by working to improve housing affordability and solve the problem of long-term homelessness,” Trudo wrote in his authorization to Husen. “
