Yonge park plaza . Solar panels in Pingtung Yongxin Park are removed before the Spring Festival.

Yonge park plaza . Solar panels in Pingtung Yongxin Park are removed before the Spring Festival. A few days ago, the Pingtung City Public Office abruptly built huge solar panels on the grass of Yongxin Park, covering the original green landscape.

It is exaggerated that the height of the solar panels is so low that the office argues that it is to provide parking space. After protests by residents and people’s representatives, the office decided to demolish it and restore the original appearance of the park before the Lunar New year.

Residents are dumbfounded when they see Yongxin Park, which walks every day, erecting solar panels directly on the grass to plant electricity. Ridiculously, the space under the solar panel is so narrow that it is almost impossible to use, making people wonder if it is just planting electricity on the grass, and the residents shake their heads and say they can’t figure out why they made such a thing.

Pingtung City Public Office staff explained that in order to tie in with the central government’s promotion of green energy policy, solar panels were installed because of the lack of parking spaces around Yongxin Park, which can also be used as a shelter for car parking in addition to planting electricity. However, there is still grass under the solar panel, and it is impossible to park at a set height, so residents joke: do you want to park a model car?

Due to public grievances and questions on behalf of the people, the municipal government office summoned manufacturers, representatives and chiefs to the meeting on the 27th. After the meeting, it was decided that due to the poor perception of the public, solar panels would be removed before the Spring Festival and the park green space would be restored. The Office also stressed that if photovoltaic panels are to be set up in the future, the location will certainly take into account local needs and tie in with the topography.

Some residents said that the Tsai government has made great efforts to promote the green energy policy, but there are many strange and contradictory situations of green energy environmental protection. In addition to growing electricity on fertile land has become a big problem, there are also cutting down large tracts of forest to plant electricity and planting electricity in all kinds of places where there is no doubt. Yongxin Park is probably the first example of Taiwan planting electricity directly on grasslands.

Pan Mengan, mayor of Pingtung County, also responded to this incident. On July 28, the county government asked the Municipal Government Office to withdraw the application. I do not know why the Public Office is still acting. The county government develops the green energy association to strictly examine the case and rule out the chaos. The development must take into account publicity, environmental ecology, cultural and historical sites, and so on, with the public as the primary and the green energy development as the secondary.
