So in the next few years, great changes will take place in the northeast corner of Weston Road and Mackenzie Drive in the prosperous city of York: six towers will rise from the ground, including four residential buildings and two apartment buildings for the elderly.
This is a treasure land in York, west of Canada Wonderland, a famous amusement park in Canada, and shopping facilities such as Walmart are under construction nearby.
According to SmartCentres’s plan, the property project will be built on a 6.3acre vacant site, which is part of 45 acres, most of which are under construction for open-air shopping malls, including facilities such as Wal-Mart stores and SmartStop self-help warehousing.
The project is located south of a 12-acre clearing on which developer SmartCentres and joint venture partner Fieldgate are building 179 units of townhouse.
Developer SmartCentres submitted a revised development plan and an application for land use planning for the 6.3 acres in April, including six buildings, including two buildings for the elderly and four residential buildings, totaling 1268 units.
If the application for development plan and land use planning is approved, the development will be carried out in three stages. In the first phase, two buildings for the elderly will be built in the north of the site, which will be handed over to Revera Inc. Business.
According to developer SmartCentres’s plan, the first phase of construction will begin in the second half of 2021.
Later, four residential buildings will be erected in the south of the site in two phases.
SmartCentres also plans to build a large square in the southwest corner of the property, at the intersection of Weston Road and Major Mackenzie, including retail stores, which will serve not only as meeting places for citizens, but also as interior sidewalks leading to green spaces and associated landscape facilities.
A public hearing on the real estate development project is expected to be held this autumn to solicit public opinions and suggestions on the development plan.
