New townhomes oakville. A group of high-rise apartment buildings will be built in Wanjin Yonge Street Corridor. A developer has submitted a plan to the Wanjin municipal government to develop a group of high-rise apartment buildings at the intersection of Yonge Street and Royal Orchard Boulevard in the Thornhill community. The tallest tower will have 59 stories.
Developer Greencapital Limited Partnership plans to build four apartments, 25, 31, 39 and 59 floors, on about four acres of land north of Royal Orchard Boulevard, between Yonge Street and Inverlochy Boulevard.
The plan also includes two four-story skirt towers for retail, service and office space.
The developer also proposes to include the subway station entrance as soon as the Yonge Street North Metro Yanqian approves the construction of the Royal Orchard station.
Keith Irish, a member of the Thornhill constituency, commented on the preliminary planning report at the Development Services meeting of the Wanjin City Council on November 9th.
He said that he believes that the residents of the Royal Orchard community want to add a subway station at this intersection, even if there is no subway station, they will agree to redevelop the area, but the plan currently submitted is unacceptable.
The city councilman pointed out that despite the feedback from the public, there was no change in the plan from the original one a year ago, and the main concerns were that the height of the apartment building was not compatible with nearby neighbors. “imagine building a 59-story tower at the top of the mountain, between the two existing 15-story and 13-story buildings.”
In addition, the existing municipal service facilities can not accommodate this scale of development, but must be significantly upgraded, but the developers did not mention it.
As for traffic, the new apartment building will lead to an increase of nearly 2000 cars, putting great pressure on the already crowded Royal Orchard Boulevard. The city councilman also pointed out that the 0.35-acre parking lot is pitifully small.
Don Hamilton, deputy mayor of Wanjin, responded to the comments of city councillors, saying that the development plan still needs to be improved.
Whether a subway station will be built or not, the development will affect existing and future services, transportation networks, municipal services and all other aspects that the city government needs to consider, he said.
