David Bela Salomon established Preston Group in the 1960s under the name Gonte Construction Limited. David, a Holocaust survivor born in 1927 in Chmielnik, Poland, relocated to Toronto with his family to establish a new life after the war. In the 1960s, David and his associates constructed a large number of rental flats in Toronto, mainly in the Flemingdon Park district with its many high-rise structures.
