While many people connect New England with some of the greatest autumn foliage in the world, Canada provides a number of wonderful sites for watching the diversity of yellows, oranges, and reds splattered over the province.
Cape Breton in Nova Scotia
In October, for nine days, the Celtic Colours International Festival celebrates the music, culture, and natural beauty of Cape Breton. Artists, storytellers, and musicians from across the globe come to be greeted by the island’s blossoming greenery, tens of thousands of tourists, delicious seafood, and the island’s renowned friendliness. Unique to the event, performances and seminars are held at community centers, theaters, and churches all over the island. The Cabot Trail has previously been included on The Great Canadian Bucket List. People who live there say that autumn is the best time to take one of the best drives in the world.
The Laurentians in Quebec
When viewing tourist photographs of this 22,000-square-kilometer area north of Montreal, many of them include the vibrant reds and oranges of autumn foliage. The mountain air is fresh, the maple orchards are sparkling, and towns, spas, and resorts are blooming with romance. In addition to the fall foliage, it is an excellent time to enjoy the gourmet foods made in the region, such as cheese, wine, cider, sausages, honey, and maple syrup products. Warm up at one of hundreds of outstanding spas, like Nordic spas in Mont Tremblant and Inn Spas in Sainte-Adélie, during the chilly evenings.
Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba
Consider Riding Mountain National Park if you’re searching for fall foliage on the grasslands. Moose, elk, black bears, and wolves inhabit about 3,000 km2 of undulating hills and boreal forest. There are a variety of fall-themed activities available at the park. You may accompany interpreters as they follow herds of elk and travel through the spectacular Manitoba Escarpment on one of the province’s most picturesque trails, the Gorge Creek Trail. You may also become a citizen scientist by joining the park’s field research team.
Elk Ridge Resort in Saskatchewan
If you’re in Saskatchewan, take an hour-long journey from Prince Albert to this four-season resort for some fall treatment. Whether you’re birding, hiking along the 400km of manicured paths, or playing championship golf on the 27-hole course, the autumn foliage of the surrounding forest is a sight to see. The changing leaves are not the only natural wonder on show; if you stay up late, you may also see the Northern Lights.
