The latest market tracking data for the Greater Toronto area (GTA) in June showed that prices for detached homes and apartments were near record highs in terms of average prices.
The average selling price of all types of homes in the greater Toronto area was C $1075636 last month, compared with an average of C $891167 in June 2020, GTA prices have increased by 20.7% in the past 12 months.
Ten years ago, in 2011, the average selling price of GTA was just C $465412.
TRREB tracks monthly sales data from 33 towns in the Greater Toronto area, including Toronto, York, Pierre, Durin, Horton, Simcoe and Dufferin.
York has analyzed the trend of house prices in the Toronto area over the past decade, and the chart below shows the average real estate price rise in seven areas around GTA between 2011 and 2021.
The result may come as a surprise to some that Toronto is not the most expensive market for GTA, nor is it the market with the largest percentage growth over the past decade.
In terms of percentage increase, the biggest increase was in Dulin District, which rose from 317000 10 years ago to 900000 now, an increase of 183 per cent.
