Carla admitted that she knew the housing market was hot when she first started looking for a new house in the local market. So when they took a fancy to a house listed for C $900000, they decided to sell it decisively.
At 9 a. M. one day in early February, the couple stuck to the final deadline and made an offer of C $1100017.
As far as Carla knows, there were 24 buyers competing with them at that time. The seller’s agent told them that they would be informed of the result within two days.
The couple were more confident about the offer because their broker said that of all the bids, the price of $1.1 million was in the top five, and they paid the most deposit.
However, around 2 pm that day, Carla suddenly received a call from the seller’s agent who said that there was an offer that was C $80, 000 higher than her. “would you like to consider adding more?”
Hearing this, Carla felt very uncomfortable and felt “slaughtered”. She expressed her dissatisfaction on the phone, but the other party disagreed and said lightly, “you people in Toronto are all very rich!”
Carla is very angry about this, not to mention the prejudice that the seller’s agent acquiesced that she and her husband are from Toronto. “is it really fair to privately incite customers to raise their prices?”
The couple heard that the seller’s agent did so because the client, who had outbid them, rejected the proposal to hire his son as the buyer’s agent.
“the seller’s agent didn’t want to sell it to the buyer, so he asked us to raise our offer and take advantage of the fire.”
The couple were so disgusted with the behavior of the seller’s agent that they did not raise their offer in the end. Ironically, the two later learned that the actual price of the house was no more than C $80,000 more than their offer.
“the house we could have taken in February was ruined by the coquettish operation of the seller’s agent,” Carla said.
In the meantime, the family could only stay in the basement of a friend’s house and did not finalize the new house until recently.
