According to Morneau Shepell’s monthly mental health index, 24% of those surveyed said the pandemic had made them rethink their career paths.
Barbara Bowes, a human resources expert at LegacyBowes, is not surprised by the figures, but she thinks it is not just the pandemic that is causing the trend.
“December and January are the times when people start to reflect and set New year’s resolutions,” she said. Usually, occupation is a big part of it. ”
A report released this week also shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has “significantly affected” the relationship between Canadians and employers. 1/5 of respondents said they had a worse opinion of their boss during the pandemic.
Bowes says this is probably because some employers are not well equipped to adapt to the pandemic.
“it is difficult for many institutions to get equipment, or to get guidance on what they should do and who should do it. Some of them just can’t be handled well. ”
On the positive side, 72% of those surveyed said their employers had done a good job in health and safety since the start of the pandemic.
“it all comes down to how employers deal with COVID crises and how they will continue to deal with COVID-19 as they move forward,” she said.
Morneau Shepell’s monthly mental health index is based on an online survey that collected 3000 responses between October 25 and November 5. All respondents lived in Canada and were employed in the past six months.
